How did you get your start in photography?

I’ve been a photographer since I was 12 and stole my Dad’s camera. I apprenticed in my 20s with a Master Photographer and his studio – an amazing hands on learning experience. I then started my own photography business and to help it grow I worked in the hospitality industry serving many burgers and beers! Then I met a wonderful photographer named Rebecca, we merged our studios, I made her give up her Nikon equipment for Canon. The rest is history.

What is your photography focus these days?

Making people look their best and producing a kick-a** photo. I pride myself on making them feel comfortable in front of the camera to get your best, most natural shots. I love to shoot small business owners in need of photos for their online presence: headshots, images of them at their location, their staff, the products they sell. I love to make their personality come shining through!

What are your pet peeves when it comes to business photography?

Using old, un-professional (selfies, anyone? PLEASE DON’T!) or absolutely no images of themselves on their websites and social media.

How do you know you’ve made your client happy?

I can tell when they are actually having lots of fun in their photo session. Often they start out by dreading the process, but I think I have a talent for putting them at ease, and usually by the end I am able to capture some beautiful, natural shots. After I get to present their photos, I am thrilled to hear how surprised they are that they look so amazing, and how their friends were ooohhhing and aaahhhing over the shots. That doesn’t just make them happy. It makes me happy.

What are your words to live by?

“I’m going to figure it out.” ~Danielle LaPorte

What does life outside The Nest look like for you?

Hiking with my dog and a friend, three of my favourite things. And some lunch with wine, and finish with shoe or hat shopping and I’m in my happy place!
